Welcome to the wonderful world of

Mr. Alexander.

CATCHIN' BABY BIRDS.

When their wings are ready

they're supposed to fly away...

Sometimes, in the beginning,

they don't soar too straight,

or too high,

or too far...

but, with time,

and the right air currents,

and favorable wind conditions,

they learn to swoop and dive,

and climb to the heavens,

into the sun

and away.

Sometimes though,

they get pushed or pulled from the nest

or just plain fall.

and sometimes

while the desperation to fly is upon them,

they leave before it's the right time,

in a thunderstorm.

And then,

buffetted by the winds

and scared by the rolling thunder

and blinded by the dazzling flashes,

and soaked by the rain....

they get lost,

and they can't find their way home.

That's why god in heaven

assigns a baby bird catcher...

to watch for lost children

and frightened fledglings.

It's the job of the catcher,

to scan the heavens

and watch the ground,

to keep an eye on the nests

for just such foolish behaviour,

and then to gently pick up

the terrified, but stubborn chicks...

and place them tenderly back in the nest

from which they foolishly attempted to fly.

Even the ones who are ready to fly

still sometimes pick the wrong weather to leave in...

and the catcher has to watch for them too,

even when they keep trying to leave.

It's a tough, thankless job,

except for the rare time

when the baby manages to survive,

on it's own....

long enough to strengthen it's wings,

and get it's bearings, -

long enough for the hurricane to pass...

and the wind and rain to go away,

so that it can dry in the sunlight

and soar into the heavens.

And even then,

the baby bird catcher worries

and watches,

and wonders.

'Cos the hurricane's a'comin'

and the tree is rocking in the wind..

and the nest is weak,

and the baby is stubborn,

and wants so much to soar

into the sun.

And the sun isn't out.

So I'll keep a sharp eye on the sky,

and I'll keep my arms open...

and I'll watch for baby birds

until the hurricane passes....
